School-Based Traineeships
School-based traineeships provide an opportunity to gain experience and qualifications in the rural industry whilst still attending school.
To be eligible for a RITE school-based traineeship, students must be in Grade 10 or higher and be willing to attend all training as required. OP students are also eligible to undertake this traineeship.
Trainees are required to complete a minimum of 48 days of paid employment with a Host Employer. This generally occurs over the school holidays to provide sufficient time for the skills and knowledge to be developed.
RITE traineeships will enable students to gain valuable experience in cattle mustering/handling, machinery, horsemanship, vehicle/motorbike operation & maintenance, fencing, maintenance of property water supplies, welding, first aid and occupational health and safety.
The traineeship is designed to be practical based, offering an 80% practical skill and 20% theory training method. Theory components are completed at training blocks which occur once a term for Certificate II and twice a year for Certificate III.
Training Blocks are held at Virginia Park Station, which is 48km east of Charters Towers, Queensland, on the Flinders Highway. All training and assessment is conducted by accredited and industry current trainers.
Each trainee is designated a Field Officer that supports the trainee by keeping in regular contact with them, either by telephone, email, Skype or on-property visits.
Previous and current trainees express that the traineeship is both a beneficial and memorable experience, where you can attain lifelong skills.
